# Chrome extension

> Check the Dutch or Belgian company on the page you are on: install the Limitguard extension, add your API key and run a lead check in one click

The Limitguard Chrome extension checks the company behind the page you are looking at, while you prospect. Open it on a company website or a LinkedIn company page: it fills in what the page shows, you confirm, and one click tells you whether the company is real, active and safe to deal with.

<Note>
  The extension is in review in the Chrome Web Store. Once it is published, search for **Limitguard** in the store to install it.
</Note>

## Set up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install and pin">
    Install the extension, then open the puzzle icon in the Chrome toolbar and pin **Limitguard** so it is one click away.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your API key">
    Create a key in the [dashboard](https://dashboard.limitguard.ai?utm_source=docs\&utm_medium=docs\&utm_campaign=signup\&utm_content=chrome_extension) under **Keys**, open the extension, click **Add your API key** and paste it. The key is stored on this device only, never synced and never shown in full again. Checks are paid from the credit of the key's workspace.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check a company">
    Open the extension on a company page. Check the filled-in details, edit anything that is wrong, and click **Check this company**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What you see

Before a check the popup shows the price of one check and your credit left. After the check:

* the verdict: real and active, inactive, not found, ambiguous, unverifiable or sanctioned
* a risk word: **Low risk**, **Review first** or **High risk** (see below)
* the register status, legal form and start date
* the VAT number: valid, not valid or not checked
* sanctions: a possible match, no match, or not screened
* the lead score from 0 to 100 and any signals behind it
* a link to run a full check of the company in your dashboard (that check has its own price and runs only when you click there)

| Risk word | When |
| - | - |
| High risk | A sanctions match, or the company is inactive or not in the register |
| Review first | The register gave no clear answer, any signal was raised, or the sanctions screen did not run |
| Low risk | Real and active, screened with no sanctions match, no signals |

A check is a [lead check](/guides/ai-agent-integration) (`POST /v1/leads/verify`); its price is on the [Pricing](/pricing) page.

## What it fills in

The extension reads a page only when you open it there. It suggests:

* **Website domain** from the page address.
* **Company name** from the site name the page declares, or on a LinkedIn company page from the page heading. On LinkedIn it reads the company name only, never people or posts.
* **KVK, KBO or VAT number** from the text at the bottom of the page. A KVK number is taken only right after a word such as KvK or Kamer van Koophandel; a Belgian enterprise number must pass its checksum.
* **Country** from the number it found, else the `.nl` or `.be` domain (the default is the Netherlands).

Under the form it says where each value came from. You can change every field.

## No number on the page

* **Netherlands:** a company name is enough. Type the name and click Check: Limitguard looks it up in the KVK register and checks it when exactly one company matches. If several match, the answer is *ambiguous*; add the KVK number.
* **Belgium:** a check needs the 10-digit KBO number. A Belgian VAT number is `BE` plus that number, so `BE0460370809` gives `0460370809`. Belgian websites must show the enterprise number, usually on their legal, disclaimer or terms page: open the extension on that page and it fills the number in.
* **Only a website:** a domain alone does not identify a company in the register. Add the name (Netherlands) or the number.

## Messages

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| Add your API key to start | Paste a key from the dashboard in Settings |
| Your API key was not accepted | Check or replace the key in Settings |
| Not enough credit for this check | Top up in the dashboard |
| Your workspace spending limit is reached | Change the limit in the dashboard |
| Too many checks in a short time | Wait the time the message names |
| The register did not answer | Nothing was charged; try again later |
| Limitguard did not answer in time | The check may still have been charged: look at your credit before you try again |

## Privacy and permissions

Nothing from the page is sent until you click **Check this company**. When you open the extension it asks Limitguard only for the price and, with your key, your credit left. A check sends only the company name, number, VAT number, website and country you confirmed. The extension has no analytics or tracking and loads no code from other servers.

| Permission | Why |
| - | - |
| `storage` | Keeps your API key and language on this device |
| `activeTab` | Reads the address and title of the tab you opened the extension on, only then |
| `scripting` | Reads the site name and the text at the bottom of that tab, only after you open the extension |
| `api.limitguard.ai` | Sends the check you confirmed to the Limitguard API |

Full details are in the [privacy policy](https://limitguard.ai/privacy/?utm_source=docs\&utm_medium=docs\&utm_campaign=legal\&utm_content=chrome_extension#chrome-extension). Remove your key in the extension's Settings, or uninstall the extension, at any time.
